# The Cheapest GE Jobs, and the Expensive Ones They Prevent

## Ge refrigerator service plan, or four jobs that do the same work

We do not sell service plans. What follows is the same idea without the subscription: four jobs, what each prevents, and how often it genuinely needs doing in South Florida.

## 1. Clean the condenser — yearly

**From $135, and it is GE's own first answer** for a refrigerator that is not cold enough.

The condenser sheds the heat the appliance takes out of the cabinet. When it is packed, the heat has nowhere to go, so the compressor runs longer and achieves less. Nothing fails dramatically. The compressor just works against a load it was not designed for, quietly, for years.

**What it prevents:** long run times, a rising power bill, and eventually the most expensive component in the appliance. In this city a floor-level coil fills faster than any manual assumes.

## 2. Clean the dryer vent — yearly

**From $125, and there is no other job on this site with the same return.**

A dryer is a fan with a heater in it. Everything depends on air leaving the building, and in this county the duct is usually long, horizontal and carrying humid air that makes lint pack rather than blow through.

**What it prevents:** two cycles instead of one on every load, the electricity that goes with that, heating elements and thermal cut-outs dying early — a cut-out opens because the housing overheated, which is airflow rather than age — and the recognized fire risk in a laundry room.

## 3. Change water filters on schedule

**From $115 for the filter and the line, and often the cheapest call anybody makes.**

GE's interval is six months, and on South Florida water that is a maximum rather than a target. What people notice is not taste — it is flow, and flow arrives disguised as an appliance problem.

**What it prevents:** hollow and small ice cubes, slow dispensing, and an icemaker that appears to have died and gets replaced over a twenty-dollar cartridge. The service also covers the shut-off valve at the supply, which silts closed slowly in older houses and produces exactly the same symptoms.

## 4. Descale the ice machine — on this water, more often than the manual says

**From $165, and it is the cheapest service we offer against the most preventable failure.**

Scale builds on the evaporator. Ice takes longer to form and longer to release. Output halves over a year and the machine never stops, which is why nobody catches it until it is severe.

**What it prevents:** the gradual decline that ends most ice machines, and gets them replaced rather than serviced.

## The arithmetic, plainly

A condenser clean and a vent clean together cost less than most single repairs on our list. Done annually, they address the two failures that account for a large share of what we are called out to, and they extend the life of the two most expensive appliances in the house.

That is the honest reason both sit at the bottom of our price list. They are priced to be chosen, not deferred — and a company that prices them to be deferred makes more money this year and costs you more over five.

## What a maintenance visit actually includes

Condenser and fan cleaned, and the cabinet temperatures recorded before and after. Door seals checked with the paper test, hinge side first. The dryer vent cleared end to end with airflow measured both ways. Filters replaced and the water path flushed. And a written note of what we found — **including the things that are fine**, because knowing a seal has two years left is worth as much as knowing it has none.
