# GE refrigerator error code CI

### What CI means, in the maker’s own words

Check the icemaker for proper operation. GE puts this among the codes that can usually be resolved without a service call, and in practice it points at the water supply and the freezer temperature far more often than at the icemaker module.

### Where this code actually appears

On the control panel, and usually with a sound. GE describes their refrigerator codes as flashing green on the display and typically accompanied by a beeping, and the range, microwave and dishwasher tables all describe codes you can read from the front of the appliance. That is the opposite of some makes, where the number is written into a hidden log and never shown — here, if something is wrong, the appliance generally tells you. Photograph what it says before cutting the power, because a reset erases it and the code is most of the diagnosis.

### Which machines this one applies to

Refrigerators with electronic dispenser controls. GE says plainly on their own range and oven table that they cannot list every code for every model past and present, so a code missing from their table is not proof that your appliance cannot raise it — and a code in it is not proof that yours can. The model number settles it.

### What to do about it

- Check that the water supply is on and the shut-off valve is fully open. A silted saddle valve is the commonest cause in this county.
- Check the freezer temperature. Ice production depends on it, and an icemaker that slowed down is often a freezer that drifted up.
- Check the shut-off arm or sensor is not held up by a bag or a box.
- Change the water filter if it is past six months — on South Florida water that interval is optimistic and a starved fill looks exactly like a failing icemaker.

### Where this goes next

The job this usually becomes is [icemaker repair](/services/icemaker-repair/), and every one of those pages carries a starting figure and the reasons that move it. If it turns out to be nothing — and on this make a real share of these are modes rather than problems — the visit ends there and you pay the diagnostic and nothing else, or call [(305) 306-2503](tel:+13053062503) and describe what the display is doing before booking anything.
