# GE microwave repair

What this involves

The high-voltage side is not a home repair

Its code table differs from the range's

Over-the-range units are two appliances in one

Read the code against the right table

The microwave list, not the range list. The same letters mean different things and that sends people to the wrong part.

The two free checks first

Whether a timer was set instead of a cook function, and whether the door is closing onto its interlocks. GE's own list starts there.

Then the high-voltage side, safely

Magnetron, diode and capacitor, discharged and measured. This is the part we would rather nobody attempted at home.

On over-the-range units, test the ventilation too

The fan and the damper are a separate circuit and a much smaller repair when that is what failed.

Both halves, on an over-the-range unit

The cooking and the ventilation are separate circuits, and a repair to one is not a test of the other. Both get run before we leave.
