  • A yellow water taxi on the waterway, with a yacht moored behind it

    Las Olas

Waterfront homes and low-rise buildings where appliance fronts are often paneled to match the joinery. Door and panel alignment is part of the work, not an afterthought.

  • The sun setting over a waterway with boats moored along both banks

    Rio Vista

Older waterfront homes close to downtown, with kitchens of several vintages. We see original installations and recent replacements on the same street.

  • A line of palms reflected in still water at dusk

    Seven Isles

Canal houses with kitchens built for entertaining and a good deal of equipment in them. Something running slightly out of specification is the call we take most often here.

  • A waterfront house at dusk with palms reflected in the canal

    The Landings

A quiet canal-front neighborhood of houses with docks. Outdoor kitchens are common, and they are what the salt and the heat reach first.

  • Storm clouds lit gold over the surf at sunset

    Pompano Beach

Coastal buildings and inland streets in the same city. Where the unit sits relative to the water is the first thing that tells us what to expect from the condenser.

  • An aerial view of a creek winding through Everglades wetland

    Weston

Planned neighborhoods where whole phases share a specification, so we usually know the unit before we arrive. Most are now well past their original coverage.

  • A large waterfront house behind a row of palms, seen across the water

    Coral Ridge

Canal-front houses east of the Intracoastal, with kitchens rebuilt around original layouts. Salt air reaches well inside the house here, even where the appliance sits nowhere near a window.

  • Boats and docks at sunset on flat water

    Harbor Beach

A gated waterfront community where visits are cleared at the gate first. Homes usually run more than one unit, and the outdoor equipment lives beside the dock.

  • A marina full of moored boats at first light

    Lighthouse Point

Canal-front houses, many with a dock and an outdoor kitchen behind the seawall. Anything installed outdoors here takes the heat and the salt together.

  • Palms silhouetted against the water at sunset

    Parkland

Newer, larger houses well inland, with big kitchens and utility space beyond them. More appliances per house than average, and more of them out of sight until something goes wrong.

  • A street of newly built houses after rain, with palms in the front yards

    Pembroke Pines

A wide spread of housing ages, and equipment to match. Legacy series still working after twenty years are a regular sight, and parts for them can take a few days to source.

  • A row of tile-roofed houses with pools and driveways, straight down from the air

    Cooper City

Family neighborhoods where the kitchen was fitted once and has worked hard ever since. Routine cleaning is the job that most often prevents the expensive one.

  • A quiet Everglades waterway covered in lily pads

    Coral Springs

Inland, so less salt and more heat — appliances run hard for more months of the year here, and one that is already struggling shortens the life of everything around it.

  • The Fort Lauderdale skyline above the residential canals, with boats moored behind the houses

    Fort Lauderdale

Waterfront houses, high-rises and everything between.

  • Condominium towers along the beach at dusk, seen from the air

    Hallandale Beach

Mostly towers, many with kitchens on the compact side, where getting a built-in unit out is the first half of the job. Service elevator times are booked ahead.

  • The Hillsboro Inlet lighthouse lit at night above the palms

    Hillsboro Beach

A thin strip between the ocean and the Intracoastal, which is about as exposed as this county gets. Metal here corrodes early and predictably.

  • A boardwalk path through the dunes to the beach and the lifeguard stand

    Hollywood

From bungalows near the beach to newer buildings inland, with the salt exposure dropping off the further west you are. It changes what we check first.

Repairs in Broward County, in more detail

GE appliances across Broward County

Broward has 11 towns with a GE page on this site, Cooper City, Coral Springs and Fort Lauderdale first among them, plus 7 neighborhoods with pages of their own, from the canal streets of Coral Ridge and Seven Isles to the planned phases of Weston. The rest of the county is inside the same service area.

Two Browards, two kinds of GE call

East of I-95 the county is canal houses and waterfront buildings, and the GE equipment there ages the way everything near salt water does: control boards and fan motors on outdoor and garage units go first, and a beverage center built into an outdoor kitchen is working harder than GE ever expected it to. West of the turnpike it is family houses in planned communities, often with the original GE package still in place — refrigerator, range, dishwasher and microwave bought together — and the calls are the ones that come with years of daily use: a dishwasher that stops draining, a washer that will not spin, an icemaker that has given up.

The garage is a GE problem

Broward houses put a second refrigerator or a chest freezer in the garage more often than not, and a garage here is an unconditioned room in a subtropical summer. GE builds garage-ready freezers precisely for that, but plenty of garage units were never meant to be there. When a freezer in the garage runs constantly or lets food soften, the first question is which kind it is, because the answer decides whether the fix is a part or a different place to put it.

How a visit in Broward County is arranged

What you pay for the diagnostic comes off the repair, and the repair itself is priced in writing before a single screw is turned. Tell us the model number from the plate and what the unit is doing — for a GE washer, whether it is a HydroWave model, because GE documents running noises on those that sound alarming and are not problems at all.

Tell us the model number and what it is doing.
